Day 1: Antananarivo/Morondava
Fly to Morondava after breakfast. Lunch at a local beach-front restaurant. In the afternoon, visit the fishermen’s village, Betania and the mangroves by local sailboat, named ‘pirogue’.
Day 2: Belo sur Tsiribihina
Drive with 4×4 north (4 hours) to the river town, Belo sur Tsiribihina. Enjoy the river and relax.
Day 3: Bekopaka/Tsingy de Bemaraha
Early morning drive (4 hours) to Bekopaka, where the entrance to the Tsingy de Bemaraha is. The Tsingy is a UNESCO world wonder, characterized by its sharp pinnacle rock formations. Here you can enjoy the view of lemurs jumping from razor sharp rock to razor sharp rock! In the evening visit the small tsingy and see some of your first lemurs and other fauna and flora.
Day 4: Manambolo/Tsingy de Bemaraha
Visit the Manambolo gorge on a dug out canoe to see caves and rock formations. You can also see the famous tomb of the Vazimba tribe who lived in the tsingy in the 17th century. Those feeling physically fit enough can then opt into the Big Tsingy Trek! Here you can see 30meter high cracks, canyons, cathedrals, and enjoy a stunning view while crossing the suspension bridge in the big tsingy.
Day 5: Kirindy
Drive back south to the Kirindy forest to see the lemur’s main predator: the fossa! The fossa is a cat-like animal that’s considered to be endangered. Stay overnight at Kirindy.
Day 6: Kirindy/Baobab Avenue/Morondava
Spend the day enjoying Kirindy. In the afternoon, drive to the Baobab avenue to enjoy the scenic sunset with these 800-year old trees. Perfect photo opportunity! Sleep in Morondava
Day 7: Ifaty
Fly back to Antananarivo and travel to the town of Ifaty.
Days 8-9: Ifaty
Spend two full days enjoying this gorgeous area. Opt to do some hiking, trekking in the Baobob Forest or hit the beach for some fun in the sun. Optional: Snorkelling (USD$25) and diving (USD$90/dive).
Day 10: Ranohira/ Isalo National Park
Drive through the desert landscape, viewing the tribal Mahafaly tombs and giant baobab trees en route. Continue to Ranohira, a small town at the entrance of Isalo National Park
Day 11: Isalo National Park
Take a trek through the park by foot. You’ll see some amazing views, a small oasis, swim in the natural pools, and enjoy the waterfalls. And lemurs too of course!
Day 12: Anja Community Reserve/Ranomafana
Travel north, stopping at Anja Community Reserve, known for it’s ring-tailed lemurs. Continue on through the changing landscape to the small town of Ranomafana. Enjoy a night walk with a local expert guide outside the Park.
Day 13: Ranomafana/Antsirabe
Start the day early to see and hear the birds in the forest. You’ll also see some lemurs and chameleons! After the guided walk, travel north to Antsirabe and enjoy the magnificent views in all directions.
Day 14: Andasibe National Park
Travel to Andasibe-Mantadia National Park with stops en route. Visit the upland rainforest. Enjoy a night walk through Andasibe-Mantadia National Park with a specialized local guide to spot Madagascar’s famous lemurs! Stay near Andasibe.
Day 14: Andasibe National Park/Lemur Island
Spend the day exploring the national park and visit the Indri Special Reserve (*Indris are the largest lemur alive!). Visit the Lemur Island, where you’ll be up close and personal with 4 species of lemurs! Perfect selfie opportunities. Stay another night near Andasibe.
Day 15: Andasibe National Park/Akanin’ny Nofy
Drive east (4 hours) to reach the village of Ankanin’ny Nofy. Cross the Pangalanes Canal by boat, enjoy some free time and spend the night in a hotel.
Day 16: Akanin’ny Nofy
Visit the Palmarium private reserve to see lemurs in the wild, as well as other fauna and flora. Spend the afternoon relaxing by the lake.
Day 17: Akanin’ny Nofy – Tamatave
Sail on the Pangalanes Canal to Tamatave by local sailboat, known as ‘pirogue’. See local life, with fishermen and their traditional canoes, rafts carrying banana bunches, and relaxed locals living in the ‘mora mora’ way.
Day 18: Sainte Marie
Take a bus early the next morning to to reach the port of Soanieran’Ivongo, and then boat to Sainte Marie- arrive around noon. Sainte Marie is a small tropical island with beautiful sandy beaches lined with coconut trees. The island is surrounded by a coral reef which allows for exceptional diving and snorkeling. During whale season you can see the whales come in as they give birth to their young.
Day 19-21: Sainte Marie
Relax on the beach, enjoy free time. Optional excursions and water activities to do with the hotel.
Day 22: Antananarivo
Fly back to Antananarivo.
